How much does a Wedding Photographer cost?

It depends really on what you’re looking for! My starting price for full day coverage is around the £1000 mark, but as every wedding is unique please take this as a guide. If the ballpark figure is OK with you, then I’d be delighted to have a chat with you about the specifics of your day, which will then let me give you a final price.

Why is wedding photography so expensive?

It might seem expensive at first glance but when you break it down it’s actually not a lot of money for what you get.
For a full day wedding you’re looking at approximately 12 hours on the day and I anticipate 4 additional days of editing time on top of that. Then you have to factor in insurance, the kit that I use, the subscriptions to editing software, travel to the venue to recce and on the wedding day… it all adds up!

Will you go to the venue before the wedding?

Distance-permitting I will go to the venue prior to your wedding day to recce it – I’ll let you know if there is any reason I can’t do this before you book. Visiting the venue is a good opportunity for me to work out locations for photographs, as well as to meet key personnel at the venue (you never know when you’ll need to bargain for an extra fifteen minutes taking couple photos!)
If possible, I’ll arrange to go to the venue with you beforehand. It gives the opportunity to walk through your plans for the big day AND to get a few photographs of you to get you comfortable in front of the camera.

What will you be wearing?

I will be wearing smart-casual dress. I don’t wear a full suit for reasons of comfort while working (and because I will happily throw myself on the ground or up a tree if I think there’s a photo in it); however I appreciate also that I might pop up in your wedding video and I’m representing my business, so I can’t turn up looking scruffy!

Will we need to feed you?

You don’t need to if numbers are tight – however if it’s possible it would be appreciated. Wedding days are long days for a photographer, and even during dinner I’m often dashing about putting batteries on charge, backing up images to hard drives, etc. – so a meal is always welcome as it’s one thing less to be thinking about.

Do you work alone?

It depends on what you want on the day. If you are both getting ready in different places and / or it’s a larger wedding, it is useful for me to bring a second-shooter. It allows me another pair of hands and eyes on the day and gives you a broader range of images in your final set! I have people I regularly work with and that I trust to provide a great service, and I’m happy to introduce you to your second-shooter before the big day if you like. Please be aware, however, that engaging a second-shooter would increase the quote for your wedding coverage.

What kit do you use?

I use Sony cameras; they are really easy to use and the quality of the technology means I can concentrate on taking creative images for you. I have two camera bodies and a range of lenses, so while I might look like I’m playing a game of photography Buckaroo on the day, it means I can take a range of images with a different feel. Crucially it also gives me a fall-back if a piece of kit fails!

Are you insured?

Yep! I have public liability, professional indemnity and kit insurance. So if something does go wrong (nothing has so far, touch wood!) then we’re all covered.

What if there’s a problem on the day?

Sometimes things do go wrong – timings slipping is pretty common, for example. I will always ask you to nominate someone as my point of contact for any issues. It might be someone in your wedding party or the venue’s wedding coordinator. It’s my aim to make sure that you don’t need to deal with any problems except in extreme circumstances. It’s your wedding day after all – you should be enjoying fizz and the company of your friends and family!

What time will you leave?

A lot of photographers specify “I’ll be there till the third dance” etc. – I don’t do that. The way I see it, you’ve paid for me to be there for the day. So I’m there until such time as I think you’ve had enough of having the camera pointed at you, or I feel like the photos are starting to repeat themselves. At this point I’ll come and find you and confirm you’re happy for me to head home, and once I’ve packed up I’ll come to say cheerio.

How long until we see our wedding photos?

I know you’ll be desperate to see your photos, so I aim to process your photographs within six weeks of your wedding. Any deviation from this will be communicated to you in advance.
This may seem like a long time, but if I’ve taken 3000 photos on the day, I will spend at least a day going through them whittling them down and getting rid of photos I’m not happy with. I then have to individually process every photo in your final set. The time spent at your actual wedding is just the tip of the iceberg!

Will we get every wedding photo you take?

I’m afraid not! I will usually head home with over several thousand photos and a lot of these will be close duplicates of each other, re-shoots where someone has selfishly blinked at the wrong time (how dare they!) or test shots while I’m setting up lighting equipment. I will make a professional judgement as to the best photographs from the day, making sure that you get a broad representation of all the big and small moments of your wedding.

I hate my [wrists / legs / arms / neck / delete as appropriate] – will you fix it in Photoshop?

Unfortunately I won’t usually do this – when editing I’ll take out noticeable spots or blemishes etc., but otherwise changing your appearance would move away from the natural / documentary style that I employ. It would also add a significant amount to your price if I were to do this, as it’s very time-consuming to do this in a natural way. People can be worried about things like this though and I am happy to recommend a retoucher if you like.

Will we get a wedding album or prints?

If you select a package with an album / prints, then yes! If you don’t pick this beforehand then not to worry, we can organise it afterwards. All packages will receive a personalised USB and presentation box, and I’m happy to advise on finding a good printer if you want to organise this yourselves.

How do we book?

Give me a call on 07791 516394 or send an email to info@peterjstevensonphotography.co.uk
