Across to sunny Bute now for the glorious wedding of Sean and Amy Hannah in August 2022.

And it was very sunny. I got an early ferry across with Alex, my assistant, and we had a few hours of sunbathing in Rothesay before we headed for the venue – Mount Stuart.

Mount Stuart is stunning; it has to be seen to be believed. This huge gothic edifice nestled in the middle of a leafy Scottish island. It’s an incredible venue for a wedding and on a sunny day, like this was, the light was beaming through the stained glass windows painting pretty patterns on the floor.

Our first task was to get ourselves organised for the day. Sean arrived not long after us and then the guests started to stream along. There was plenty of fun and laughter in the courtyard area in front of the mansion before everyone was welcomed inside to take their seats.

The lovely Amy arrived soon after, the Star Wars Imperial March theme blaring from the bridal car. With her bridesmaids dotted around her and various others, there was just time for some final make-up checks and dress fixing before she made her way into the chapel.

The chapel is a beautiful venue for a ceremony, and the wedding was very warmly led by Father Roddy Johnstone.

For the signing ceremony the couple were taken into the smaller Burgess chapel. Now, I am rarely blindsided at a wedding but I had been earlier in the day when I was offered the chance to see this space and was told “you’ll need to take your shoes off”. “Um…” I replied. But you can see why from this photo – the floor is completely mirrored which offers unreal opportunities for photographs.

Post-ceremony we got a big group photo at the front of the venue, we then did all the family and friend group photos.

I then took the couple for a short walk around the gardens. I like this section of the day to be a wee oasis for my couples, a 20 minute period of calmness where they get to chat and enjoy being married without worrying about posing. I think that comes across in these photos.

Then we headed back into the mansion for the speeches. Post-speeches Alex and I disappeared for a bite to eat; after dinner we got the cake-cutting, first dance and ceilidh.

From our very first Zoom call to the day itself, Peter kept regular contact with Amy and I and nothing was too big or too small. He was incredibly patient and flexible with us on the wedding day and captured some truly special photographs that we will treasure forever.
