Where on earth has the month of May gone? This year is rocketing past! It feels like just two minutes ago I was typing up my April round-up, and now May is already done and dusted, June is halfway through and a hectic wedding season has begun in earnest for this photographer.
May was a busy month for me, but I’ve also made some much-needed time to relax. Alongside paid wedding photography, I committed time to other important projects that promise to bear fruit in the future. This isn’t just metaphorical; gardening is a hobby that I love, and being something of a chilli-head this year’s jalopenos and cayennes are already providing me with my morning spice!
For me, spending time outdoors is very important. It’s vital for my mental health and allows me to re-centre, get some fresh air and be surrounded by nature and greenery. Whether it’s switching off in the garden, or taking long walks surrounded by birdsong and wildflowers, is a great way for me to recharge – and feel nurtured creatively too.
This past month has also provided me with a fantastic opportunity to get away for a wildlife trip. I discovered the joy of wildlife photography during lockdown, and the passion has really taken root. I headed to the Isles of Seil and Luing with my good friends Graeme, Jamie and Craig, and was lucky enough to capture some wonderful shots and have some really intimate wildlife experiences – like the faun that came trotting straight towards me on the coast of Seil!
We travelled on to Islay and the beautiful Oa nature reserve, which is a simply stunning place to see lots of fascinating and diverse Scottish wildlife. We finished off our trip with the annual Islay Whisky Festival - which just happened to coincide with our visit. It would have been terribly rude not to take part, but I’m not sharing those photos!
Last, but by no means least, I finished off May at Mandy and Kenny’s wedding, which was held at Eden Leisure Village in Cumbernauld. I thought I had visited most wedding venues near me, but this was a new one. I hope it won’t be long until I’m asked back, it’s a truly lovely place which acted as the perfect backdrop to Mr and Mrs Ireland’s special day.
I hope the sunny month of June is good to you all - remember to keep your smiles camera-ready. If you, or a bride and groom you know, are planning a wedding day, or if you’re looking to capture any other precious moments or events, I'm just a phone call or message away!
